Description:
In celebration of Earth Day 2025, themed “Our power, Our planet”, Sacred Heart School hosted a vibrant and thought-provoking day of activities to promote environmental stewardship and educate students on sustainable living.
The event began with a stirring speech emphasizing the significance of Earth Day and the central role young people play in shaping a sustainable future. Students were encouraged to reflect on their daily choices and how small efforts can contribute to big changes.
Central to the day's message was the importance of the 5 R’s—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle. Through discussions and displays, students explored how these principles can be integrated into their daily lives to minimize waste and lessen their environmental impact. Students made baskets from old newspapers through which they emphasized that the first and most powerful R—Refuse—reminds us to say no to single-use plastics and unnecessary consumption, aligning directly with this year’s Earth Day theme.
Adding a creative and interactive element to the celebration, a photo booth was set up where students posed while taking an environmental pledge, making their commitment to protecting the planet both personal and visual.
One of the highlights of the day was a nukkad natak (street play) performed by students, dramatizing the dangers of environmental neglect. The energetic and emotional performance struck a chord with the audience, driving home the message that awareness is the first step toward change.
In a unique initiative to promote wellness alongside sustainability, a speech was delivered on the benefits of Ashwagandha, a revered medicinal herb known for boosting immunity and reducing stress. As a green gesture, Ashwagandha saplings were distributed among students, parents and teachers, encouraging everyone to cultivate nature and health at home.
Principal, Rev Sister Venita Joseph praised the efforts, saying that this years theme could not be more timely. At Sacred Heart, we are committed to educating students not just academically, but morally and environmentally. These initiatives empower our students to be conscious, compassionate, and courageous citizens of the Earth.”
Through knowledge, creativity, and action, Sacred Heart’s Earth Day 2025 celebration was a compelling reminder that every person—no matter their age—has the power to protect our planet.
